If there is one common thread to what I have been saying about emerging and future technologies, it is this: Europe, and all its countries, needs to work together – and now. Part of this is about being at the forefront of progress and staying there. Another part is about the need to invest politically and financially for the future. But the main part is about doing the best that we possibly can for our people, our companies, our industry – to drive Europe ahead in the digital world. That is what the Digital Single Market aims to achieve, supported by funding from our next budget. -- Andrus Ansip, Technologies that will change our world, 15 May 2018

When it comes to cyber-attacks, you could say my experience is somehow special. Estonia is a small Baltic nation on the edge of Europe. We not only share a border with Russia, we also have a long and difficult history together. In 2007, I was Prime Minister of Estonia. Over three weeks, my country was the target of an orchestrated cyber-campaign to destabilise parts of our online presence and civilian infrastructure. It was a watershed moment. I learned a lot of lessons in 2007. -- Andrus Ansip, RSA Conference, 28 April 2018

Imagine waking up in a room whose temperature is exactly as you want it. Your sleep-tracking wearable device has already switched on the lights. The app knows you are awake, so the coffee machine starts to brew. A fantasy of the future? Not really. The 'smart home' is fast becoming a reality. -- Europe should not be afraid of data, 29 September 2016

If I think back 15 or 20 years, I can still remember dial-up modems and the sound they made when you tried to connect to the internet. And how long it took to get online. I'm sure many of you can as well. But our children might struggle to remember. They are now used to high-speed internet access and would not accept anything less. Internet technology has transformed people's habits and demands. -- Andrus Ansip, Europe Mobile 360 Europe event, 14 June 2016
