Pay attention to the first two words of the title: “how to”: they imply that there is a way, that you can learn. And indeed, the idea that we – women, but “they don’t have the monopoly of insecurity”, so actually everybody, really – can learn “how to be powerful in (our) speaking is at the heart of this book. Viv Groskop invites us to learn from a series of female speakers and be more Michelle (Obama) and learn that we can learn, be more Amy (Cuddy) and create presence and reduce distraction, be more Virginia (Woolf) and find the right pace, be more Oprah (Winfrey) and practice and persevere, use signposting and manage applause, etc. up to be more You. The tone is light and fun, yet the book is informative and unique in addressing not what to say but how to say it.
